Technological breakthroughs are becoming evident as time progresses. These events hds opened the doors for work efficiency and safety for the workers. A.I programmed in our cellular phones, aids us in every day living. From setting up an alarm to reviewing emails and scheduled dates are on ease. SIRI, an artificial intelligence developed by Apples is a digital assistance ready to work for you. With starting phrase of “Hey SIRI” she will automatically wake up and ready to list your command. Need to set a reminder for your maintenance? SIRI got you covered. Basically, these advancement ease our way of living and allows us to be more productive everyday. Yet these technology has inclined rumors by some people. What A.I can bring to the table is it can gather personal information based on your daily activities and commands everytime you use your phone.
A.I’s are also used by the biggest search engines, designed to monitor your actions with your phone and companies are trying to use that advantage by using that piece of information. Let’s say you recently searched for a “puppies for sale” online, that search of yours will be recorded in to the A.I’s log , and will learn from that pattern. Now A.I knows that you are up to for dogs this is the time advertising companies will use that information to sell their product. In social media, frequent ads of dog accessories will be shown in your timeline encouraging you to buy one. The companies are directing their sales to the consumers who are interested in that field making their product most likely to be sold
What some fear the most is the data exploitation, as A.I continues to learn from you. Your personal information is also at risk. Confidentiality may break if this goes out of hand and for worse can be used to blackmail. Data privacy matters to everyone, the data that is gathered can be used to in malicious activities. Personal information that is collected can be used to make a false identity that may affect your social status, anyone can use that information to but expensive products under your name even you didn’t want it. This is how A/I can be dangerous if not kept monitored. Transparency of use is monitored by the government to prevent the exploitation of data. Personal assistant is great for having our backs but let’s just not hope the companies will weaponize it to use and gathered personal information without our consent.
